If you aren't positioned correctly You Will Lose! Losing isn't an option!
Today I want to cover SERP’s or Search Engine Ranking Position and how it relates to your search engine optimization campaign. Earlier this week we covered Onsite Search Engine Optimization, Offsite SEO, and Keyword Research. When you utilize keyword research to implement onsite and offsite search engine optimization it is done to help you search engine rankings. Search Engine Ranking Position is the location that you fall in the search engines. When you search for a keyword or term you will see a page of 10 results and other pages that follow the same way. (The links at the top and bottom are paid search terms known as pay per click, but are not part of the SERP’s.)
[quote_left]The top 3 positions in the Search Engine Ranking Position are the most clicked upon.[/quote_left]The ideal location for your website is the first 3 positions. When people search for something in a search engine they will typically click on the top 3 links that show up in the search results. For your website to be positioned in the best place you need to appear in the top 3 positions. This may take time and you have to do this for each keyword that you are targeting. This reinforces the importance of keyword research. It may take sometime to rank for the keywords that you are targeting, but the work you put in is worth it. Organic traffic from search engines is key to having a successful website and successful search engine campaign.
There are various factors that determine the ranking of your site in the search engines. The first place to start is to create unique quality content. Before you consider writing for the search engine you need to consider that people are the ones that will ultimately read your content. It needs to be original and quality content or people will not read it. Once you have wrote the content for people then you can return and look at the Search Engine Optimization side. The first thing you want to consider as previously talked about is keyword research. You want to ensure that you are targeting relevant keywords. You need to ensure that you include the keywords in the page url, the title of the article/page, the meta description, and also within the content. Don’t try to stuff the title or url with keywords. You want to make your title and url “reader friendly” while at the same time including the keywords.
When it comes to offsite search engine optimization it is important that you get contextual backlinks to the pages you are trying to rank. For example if you are trying to rank for pet food supply store New York, NY then you want to ensure that the backlink is utilizing anchor text that includes the keyword or keyword phrase. You also want to ensure that you are using a site that has authority. The easiest way to find the authority of a site is to look at the Google Page Rank and also the Alexa Ranking. To find out this information about a site I utilize a plugin for broswer WebRank Stats. This tool will help you in finding the Alexa Ranking (the traffic ranking of a site) and the Google Page Rank. It is also useful because it will tell you how many sites backlink to the site. You can use this tool to find out what sites your competition are using to rank for a keyword or phrase.
The other elements that I talked about in offsite SEO are important as well. The use of article marketing and social bookmarking will help you in your ranking of your site. It is important to utilize a comprehensive approach to search engine optimization to ensure that your page moves forward in Search Engine Page Ranking. It takes time and patience, but overall it will pay off with time.
